Originally from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Tom moved to London in 1999 to study Jazz saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music. He graduated in 2004 with a first class degree, and was the 2 time winner of the Academy's Craig Ball award for jazz performance. Whilst at RAM, Tom composed what would prove to be an albums worth of original big band material. After touring extensively for 2 years with Jamie Cullum, Matthew Herbert's pioneering big band, platinum selling rock band Hard-Fi and the Ronnie Scotts Jazz Orchestra, Tom went into the studio and recorded his debut album, "Smoke and Mirrors" which was released by Candid records to blanket 4 and 5 star reviews and was an "album of the year" for 2008 in the Guardian newspaper.
As a founding member of the UK's genre defying Heritage Orchestra, Tom was involved in many early projects and continues to arrange and perform with them. Projects have included; recreating the classic 'Bladerunner' soundtrack at the Royal Festival Hall with Massive Attack, arranging and performing in Tim Minchin's UK orchestral arena tour/live DVD, collaborating with Andy Gangadeen's improvised dance music quartet "The Bays", James Lavelle's UNKLE, and the BBC Electric Proms with "The Streets" and Dizzy Rascal.

Tom's arrangements are featured on "Basement Jazz vs Metropole Orkest" "Laura Mvula with Metropole Orkest" as well as being used during many live performances featuring; Snarky Puppy, Rumer and Caro Emerald. Other arranging credits include Lang Lang with the Monte Carlo Symphnoy, Nigel Kennedy's Duke Ellington project, "Urban Classic Prom" with BBC Symphony Orchestra and the inaugural "Comedy Prom" with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
